Science communication is about telling your story. I can help. I’ve worked as a freelance science writer for the Medical Research Council and contributed articles to The Royal Statistical Society and an award-winning piece for the British Society for Cell Biology. I also co-led an exhibit at the Royal Society Summer science exhibition.
Science communication is about telling stories.
Spending 11 years in a research environment, I’ve also written and published in peer-reviews journals, specialising in cell biology, cell signalling and mathematical modelling. I know how to phrase and pitch complex research for a lay audience or the general public. My past work covers a diverse range of fields from disease to biomedicine, writing for a long standing project Biomedical picture of the day (formerly based at the MRC in London). I have pitched science to the media, members of parliament and press offices at UK universities.
I offer the following science communication services:
Lay summaries – drafting short, punchy research summaries/ lay summaries for web sites, research paper abstracts, charities, policy documents, grant proposals and outreach/ impact statements.
Science writing – I’m always interested to get involved in science writing projects including books, magazines and children’s media. I have a strength / weakness for science puns.
#JournoRequest and Help A Reporter Out (HARO) – expert commentary on biomedical research and online tutoring.
Scientific consulting in TV and film – Consulting on biology, biomedical science and cancer in media projects (film, TV, games and print media).
My specialisms are: Cancer, mathematical modelling, cell biology, cell signalling, Systems biology, critical thinking, online tutoring.
Please do get in touch to discuss your needs, availability and pricing.
