Expert help with critical thinking

help with critical thinkingCritical thinking is an increasingly important skill in work and life. The ability to question, evaluate and reason helps us make balanced conclusions. It’s also our defence against bias or misunderstanding. I offer tutoring and mentoring to help with critical thinking and critical evaluation. I often work with students, postgraduates, nurses and other medical professionals.

As a critical thinking tutor, I can help in the following ways:

Help with applying critical thinking in your work or life

We can work together on applying critical thinking in your life or work. We might work on themes such as: how to identify credible sources, the importance of trust, avoiding bias and how to share critical thinking skills with others. I’ve written a blog on improving your critical thinking skills but sessions are totally flexible to your situation.

Help with critical thinking in your academic work

In one-to-one online sessions, we can discuss ideas and suggestions on planning and structuring your work, to put your ideas across effectively. You are welcome to send me a draft of their academic work in advance to look through and prepare feedback (this is included in the price of the session). I’ve also written a blog to help with proofreading your work.

I can show you how to apply the principles of critical thinking to undergraduate, postgraduate and work-based reports, dissertations and evidence-based practice assessments. I’ve written about the many different types of review – it can be difficult to tell them apart! They often this involves critical analysis of “the literature” and self reflection as part of the introduction or concluding paragraphs. I’ve also written a blog on the how to write a critical review.

(Obviously, I cannot write any assessed work for you. My aim is to help you by suggesting areas for improvement, so you can feel confident in presenting and submitting your work.)

Help with critical thinking when evaluating and analysing dataHelp with critical evaulation

We can look at methodical approaches to interpreting and analysing data, calling on critical thinking to form balanced conclusions and improve experimental or study designs. We might also look at critical thinking when applying and “synthesising” evidence from academic articles and papers.

Help with critical thinking involving ethics

We can look at how to apply critical thinking within ethical frameworks like contractarianism and utilitarianism when building arguments on particular issues.

All of this is flexible to you. Please do get in touch to discuss how we can work together to improve and apply your critical thinking skills. Often this involves online one-to-one sessions to discuss a piece of work that you may have supplied in advance.

When you’re ready, get in touch for an initial chat about help with critical thinking.

My critical thinking sessions are £80 per session. This includes a combination of an online meeting lasting up to an hour and proof-reading and commenting on any critical thinking work you send to me.

I’ve also written more generally on improving your critical thinking skills in life,  and on how to spot when statistics are manipulated. Getting help with critical thinking can also help to untangle the truth from  misinformation and disinformation buzzing around us. I can help you develop these ideas further with one-to-one tutoring sessions.
