Hello, I’m John, a PhD-qualified biologist and mathematician. I offer friendly one-to-one tutoring in science and mathematics, specializing in online A-level biology tutoring and critical thinking. I also offer science and maths masterclasses for small dedicated groups and a range of services for postgraduates.
My wife, Sammy, a former head of Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) at a secondary school, offers specialist tutoring in German and Italian.
Between us, we have hundreds of hours’ tutoring experience, and cater for ages from GCSE/IGCSE and A-level, through to university students, postgraduates and adult learners. We cater for all UK exam boards, including AQA, Edexcel and OCR.
We also have extensive experience of home education (home schooling). We also help students who are on the autistic spectrum (ASD/ASC), and those with special educational needs (SEND). In many cases we work alongside schools and colleges.
Some of our recent tutees have attended: The Liverpool Blue Coat School (I am a former pupil), Calderstones School, Life Sciences UTC, Wirral Grammar School, West Kirby Grammar School, St Peter’s York, Eton College, Guernsey Ladies College, Stockholm International School, GEMS Wellington International School (Dubai). We welcome online students from all over the world.
Some of our students have gone on to: The University of Oxford (Biomedical Sciences), The University of Cambridge (Biochemistry), UCL (Medicine), The University of Manchester (Biology and Maths), The University of Liverpool (Biological Sciences).
Boosting confidence always comes first
We believe that boosting confidence and reducing stress and anxiety is the first step towards tackling any tricky concept. John is also a professionally-qualified coach supporting student wellbeing and positive mental health.
We offer online and one-to-one tutoring from our home in Woolton village, Liverpool. Full CRB (DBS) checks are available to view on request. We also run “masterclasses”, online tutoring sessions for small groups in A-level biology and GCSE maths, usually on weekday evenings. Normally, we invite new students (and their families) for a (free) chat lasting 10-15 minutes before the first session.
We founded Woolton Tutors in 2014 – we’re now proud to have online tutees from the UK and Guernsey and international students in Spain, China and the USA. We’re delighted to share our guest article for “The Parents Guide to“ on online tutoring for your child.
We are very proud of our relationships with our students and their families. Some of their feedback can be found here. We hope we go the extra mile for our students – making sure they feel relaxed and prepared for whatever their next step may be. Whether you are local, or an expat student in Dubai, we aim to support you and your studies.
Find out more about our services and fees, and please feel free to get in touch with any questions you may have – we look forward to working with you!
We also offer an ask an expert service for speedy help via text or Whatsapp (this is free for all our one-to-one and masterclass tutees). We’ve also written a series of study guides to help with exam questions, revision and more.
Woolton Tutors also offers a small number of pro bono and pay what you can afford places for bright, motivated students who may not otherwise be able to afford tutoring. Please ask your school or college to get in touch to discuss eligibility.
